Why double cleansing should be a part of your skincare routine

Cleansing is an essential part of any skincare routine. It's usually the first step and it's an important one in keeping your skin balanced, healthy and clean. Regardless of whether you use a gel cleanser, foam cleanser, cream cleanser, oil cleanser or clay cleanser, cleansing works to remove dirt, grime and oil from your face.

Without cleansing, grease, pollution and dust would make the skin a breeding ground for bacteria which would then lead to breakout problems, early signs of aging and pigmentation issues.

So, why is double cleansing increasing in popularity? Because it's simple and produces effective results. Double cleansing requires you to use a cleansing oil or balm first to break down makeup and sebum then follow it with a deeper water-based cleanser. The water-based cleanser removes bacteria and sweat as well as dead skin cells.

Some of you might be wondering how to double cleanse, especially when using an oil cleanser, which may be unfamiliar to you. With oil cleansing, it’s just a matter of massaging the oil into your skin for at least two minutes to lift the dirt, toxins and build up of grease. It’s not effective to just do it for a few seconds – when it comes to oil cleansing, time is required to dissolve impurities. Try our Mandarin Cleansing Oil for a soothing and refreshing cleanse.

After oil cleansing, wash your face with your choice of water-based cleanser. Try our new Aloe + Lemon Face Wash – it is a gentle cleanser made from plant-derived surfactants sourced from coconut and fruit sugars.

Double cleansing is especially useful if you wear makeup – it will ensure that every ounce of makeup is removed. Even if you don’t wear makeup, double cleansing regularly will help to brighten your complexion and improve dull skin because it washes away dead skin cells on the skin's surface.

Remember that the best time to cleanse is in the evening after you’ve been exposed to different types of impurities.

Happy cleansing!
